Weird sound problem
Weird sound problem
Is there anyone who can help me out?
I was playing a game, when suddenly like half the music stopped playing. I was like "WTH" then checked the volume and it's all OK.
Bascially: my problem is that though EVERY SINGLE VOLUME is set to max everywhere, SOME (not all sound channels) sound like if they were almost on minimum. That ruins games and makes Youtube useless!!

Rest in peace, Kym. I hardly knew ya.
Rest in peace, Marinus. A bright star, you were ahead of me on my own tracks of thought. I miss you.

No, the volume is okay. (I'm in headphones)
It's that SOME sound channels are okay, but SOME, despite having a good volume setting are so quiet they're practically muted.

Maybe you should try switching to speakers and see the result. It will help us see where the problem is.
When I had the problem with my monitor, I tried a lot of things. Switching monitors, moving the computer to another room, etc... And in the end it turned out to be a problem with the...
...power cable.

Then I had a more serious problem that my monitor would just shut up and no longer respond, forcing me to restart my computer the unsafe way. Then it turned out to be a problem with my...
...internet connection.
What I'm trying to say is that it even might be something totally not related to the headphones.

Hey, thank you, I've forgot about dxdiag, though I love using it when comparing the video card drivers.
Yes, the DirectSound seems to be the culprit. Gotta try and reinstall DirectX.

Arrgh!
Since uninstalling DX is impossible, I just tried an over-the-top installation which worked... for exactly TWO sound effects, then the volume went low again.
What do I do?!

I think now it might be my soundcard. The headphones could be bad, but they would not go out on a software channel.
Thing is, sometimes, very rarely, and seemingly at random, the volume returns to normal. As in these moments my headphones are usually on full volume, this can be quite startling indeed
but after a few seconds, the lucky effect wears off.
