I try to comment when I play levels. This one, I didn't get it at all

I got my gold, but didn't get the key thingy, you get one, then loose it when you get the next? My inventory only contained one item at the time. Very confusing.

Still, I didn't need any of the items, no did I? I got the star and I guess that's the point.
