M.A.W.

Post by Davimad » Sat Jan 29, 2005 5:28 pm

I am opening this thread for the more mature members.

M.A.W. stands for Mature Ambassadors of Wonderland.

A bit like the WWI we had a while back, this time the gentlemen can join in. 8)

This is the right place for me to be, considering that a few minutes ago I was accused of senility.

If you would like to join the only rule is, you must be aged 40 and over. :P 8)

Let me know what you all think.

tyres
?? HA HA HA HA

I looked this up in Webster's. It says, "See TIRES." Which means it's spelled tIres.

'Tyre' in English is a ring of rubber usually fitted round a wheel rim, whereas,'Tire' means weary.

Isn't it marvellous (marvelous) how we spell things differently?

We are having our first discussion in M.A.W.! 8)

'Tire' means weary
That is one meaning.

According to Webster, tire means:

"A pneumatic, doughnut-shaped structure, as of rubber, forming the outer part of the wheels of vehicles, serving to absorb shock and provide traction."

And tyre means: "See Tire"

So, if you are tired as in weary, do you spell it' tyred'?

OG, you have it all wrong! UK'ers speak English, English. US'ers speak American English. Who is talking fancy then?

HEY! Wait a minute, this is 3/1. Not fair at all, I need some more on my side. Roger, would you consider defecting?

Is this the place where we come to recouperate? I need a wheelchair, oxygen, a respirator, a cook and a maid. Preferably, housekeeping should be good looking and scantily clad. I'm gonna like it here, sounds like manna from heaven!

No, we spell it tired because tyre means See Tire. Tyred means your car has had its tires put on. Kind of like a horse is shoed. HA HA HA HA HA.

Welcome Pat,

That makes 4 to 1 now.

Yes, this is the place to be when you want to get away from it all.

No stinky nappies (diapers) or school books, no teenage hysterics or funky fashion. Just people thinking about themselves for a change.

We can be happy, grumpy or whatever one of the Seven Dwarves we choose. 8)

OK pick by the clothing color according to your skin tones
or, by the impression, the name of each vertically challenged one gives:
I'll take Dopey as I am beardless, I have green eyes, and my hair covers my ears

Bashful *Long beard Brown coat, green hat, long eyelashes
Doc *Short beard Red tunic, brown hat, glasses
Dopey *Beardless Green tunic, purple hat, big ears
Grumpy *Long beard Red tunic, brown hat, scowl
Happy *Short beard Brown jacket, orange hat, smile
Sleepy *Long beard Green coat, blue hat, heavy eyelids
Sneezy *Short beard brown jacket, orange hat, red nose

That's what I meant when saying 'spare tyre' Gen.

You are very welcome to join in, the more the merrier.

I suppose after my visit to the States, I'll be talkin' fancy too!

M.A.D. ~~ Sure, I'll defect, are you ready to teach me English English?
I kind of alluded to that a bit ago -- I'd never heard the term "suss it out"
until I heard it from the Brits on this forum.

I thought I had defected then!

I had never heard that term either.
Maureen used a term a long time ago that I had not heard, when she asked if I was 'nicking' her name, after I called myself the MAD Gramma.
She has dots in her M.A.D tho, so I was safe.

I'll take Happy because I am usually happy. But I am shaving the beard & switching my orange hat for a turqoise one; Sneezy already has an orange hat. :D

I'm on your side Maureen. I speak English English. American English is for them that can't talk proper, like what we do! :P

I'll have to be Doc. I have brown hair that looks like a hat, glasses, and a very short beard (but I am taking tablets for that).

By the way, I am only 27, but I look much older.

I'll take "Doc", but like Majic, I'm shaving the beard!

Oops, Popo beat me to it. OK, I'll be "Bashful", but again will shave the beard.

Just assign me to whatever's left over. They ALL describe me!

Doc - Glasses, but no hat and no beard; rarely a tunic
Sneezy - No beard, but I do sneeze from time to time
Sleepy - Always!
Grumpy - Moi ?!??!
Bashful - Sure am..... regular length eyelashes though

Being a defector, which is the most British?

Majic and Gen,
How can you be a specific vertically challenged one without THE BEARD? AT least Popo is taking tablets, her look will be gradual...I think.
