Ann..I would be most interested in how you came to the US, what you like, what you miss....
Did you get to go 'home' often the early years?
If I am being too personal, just ignore this, as I don't mean to be.

No Carolyn, of course I don't mind. I'm always surprised just how interested Americans are in us Brits.

I'll send you a PM a little later and tell you ALL about me.

You may have bitten off more than you can chew - remember, I've been here 40 years

I think you are an American now
When I was a kid, one of the neighbor men had been in WWII and had brought back an "English War Bride". That is what she was always known as. She was young and so delightful, with a beautiful accent that she has to this day, now in her 80's. She never again went home to England to see her family, and no one ever came to see her from England. Isn't that just such a sad story? She had 3 daughters of her own, so that was good.

Hi O/G.

I was writing you a wonderful long PM, and backed up a couple of pages to see something you'd written earlier,
and ..............
I LOST THE WHOLE DARNED THING

Didn't want you to think I hadn't responded to your request. I'll try again tomorrow.

Is there any way to save what you're writing to come back to later?
Maybe I should work in Word, and then copy & paste.

Oh well, it's time for bed, or maybe a few more minutes with Malc's Mighty Mauve

I still have a toasting fork. It is supposed to be decorative, but I also have one of the gas fires that looks like a real open fire, and you can toast things on it. When the kids were younger I used to toast them crumpets on the fire. They thought they tasted better done like that.

Aah, memories.

For OG: Crumpets are very different from English Muffins; being from the same place as you, I know what you're referring to when you say Engish Muffin. A crumpet is similar to an English Muffin, about the same size, but it is firmer and has a honeycomb pattern on top - full of holes as Maureen said. They are also thinner than an English Muffin & are not split. I think they're baked on a griddle. You can find them in the U.S., but it isn't easy. Whenever I find them, I grab them up because I love them. Maureen is right - they hold little pools of butter in all those holes!

Go to http://www1.wolfermans.com/eoneCommerce/Shop - This is Wolfermans - they have many different flavors of English Muffins and crumpets. I usually order some of these for family and friends at Christmas (& for ME, too!). Theirs are EXCELLENT!

I have now been crumpitized.....educated in crumpets.
I have never seen one in the grocery store or bakery, but then I have never looked for them either. I just know about them.
Sounds like a relative to a lot of things, maybe same dough, just different because of the method of cooking them.
If they are butter carriers, they have to be good!
Thanks for the info Majic..and all of you MAW crumpets.

Are all these wonderfully lucid, enlightning statements meant to be clues.

We're going to need better than that.

Deep Southern Fried with Cream Gravy, of course.

They are not clues.
A clue leads you in a direction. I can give you a clue....
Take off your hat first.
Everything you need is there.

When I take off my hat all that's there is spaghetti! Inside and outside!

Actually I haven't got a hat - so as they say "If you want to get a head (ahead) get a hat" - maybe if I get a hat I might get a head (brain).

I think that's what they did to me when I was a baby, before all my skull bones had fused together, and if there was any brain stuff inside it must have all fallen out.

I need more than a clue - it's going to take a step-by-step, good old fashioned, here I am, right in your face sort of a spoiler.

All of you MAW ladies are smarter than average; you are getting all hung up on how this looks   no spaghetti here, not one teeny bit.
Clue two.....
Now think about this; You have to take off your hat to hang by your feet or your hat falls off.
Thanks Popo, good idea..
Better???

Well, I am one of the STOOOOOPID ones who was trying to make this more difficult than it was. A big, FAT DUH to me! I would come back to this every once in awhile while I was at work today; couldn't figure out why I couldn't get it. Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezz

You got me good, OG! The last clue did it.

This about being observant

Finally got it - thanks to Popo's clue.

What a great brain teaser. I had my son's friend (a mathematician) look at it and he couldn't make HEAD nor TAIL of it.

Thanks for the good laugh O/G.
