Well, 2012 is actually just the end of a large cycle of the Myan calender. LittleZbot may be suggesting that it ends in mid 1435784653.

True. He may be referring to what we think in any number of time periods, and I'm sure at least some of mankind will always fear that the world will end on some date or another. You don't need a vision to know that, though.

Some have noticed that feeling early. Others have missed it entirely.

Until the dead of night, when everyone knew.

For in the dead of night, the stars blinked and sparkled out of existence.

Then everything around became as thin as air.

Then thinner than air.

Then the world faded to gray.

Well, that's my feeble attempt at writing a short description of a possible end of the world. I don't believe that can actually happen, but this description is cool.

About 2012 - Remember Y2K? Yeah. Same deal - Suicide rates climbed, stores put stuff on sale, etc.

Mankind has been predicting the End of the World (+1 point if you get the reference) since a long time ago. 2012 isn't any different in the long run.

You have 9 coins and you know 8 are real, which have exactly the same weight, and 1 of them is fake, and it has a different weight.

How many times minimal do you have to weight with a balance to know which one is fake.

Edit: It's not really tricky or so, just a puzzle, but I am out of ideas too.

The minimal times is 0, that is, if you know exactly which one is fake.
If you do not, and want to find out, the list below states the minimal number of times you have to weight(?) these coins and also to ensure that you can definitely find out the fake coin after those steps.

1. Group the coins in 3s. Put a group of three coins on each side of the balance.
2. Regardless of whether it balances or not, remove all the coins on one side and replace them with the remaining 3 coins. (You can now figure out whether the fake coin is heavier or lighter, and the group that it is in.)
3. Take two coins from the group that the fake coin is in and put one on each side. If it balances, the other coin in the group is the fake coin; if not, using your knowledge from step 2, the lighter (or heavier) coin is hence the fake one.

Actually I made a mistake when I told the riddle. I should have said that the fake coin is lighter, then you only have to weight them twice, but nevermind.
