It may be bad, but there are far worse.

As far I can know from the game, Blink, there is Blue and Yellow portals.

The portals are those blue and yellow oval thingies. The huge blackness is actually outside the level. He shoots a portal through the corner onto an outside wall.

Techniques to get outside the level existed before... but this is still huge, possibility-opening.

There are techniques to reenter the level. Usually, there's no way to get stuck, but if your portal is below the level, it's pretty easy to fall off the map.
