Since I am not only over 40, but I am over 50, I think I qualify here. My question is: HOW do all you ladies get your housework done, go to your jobs, etc, and stll have time for Wonderland? I find things lacking lately in the housework department.

Well, I keep TRYING to do it. But I've come to the conclusion that Wonderland has put a spell on my computer - since every time I even come CLOSE to my computer room, I am suddenly sucked in there, and as hard as I try, I can't remove myself from that chair. I was actually in the middle of vacuuming one day and had to stop for a second to answer the phone. The next thing I knew I was sitting here. I have no memory of going to the computer & sitting down. The vacuum sat all by itself in the living room for the rest of the day.

OMG - LAYING eggs - no, no - don't want you thinking THAT - so here's what happened. This was EXTREMELY duncely.

I put some eggs on to boil for hard boiled eggs. While I was waiting, I decided to pass the time in Wonderland. All of a sudden, I heard a LOUD POP coming from somewhere. All I thought was - WHAT was THAT? Then another POP, and another one - I suddenly realized what was happening, ran out to the kitchen to find hard boiled eggs exploding in the pan and shooting out all over the kitchen. All the water had boiled out - I BURNED HARD BOILED EGGS! Didn't know that was possible. I also discovered that burnt hard boiled eggs have such a lovely smell. YUCK! It was freezing outside, and I had to open all the windows, turn on fans & spray the house with air freshener - still took forever to get rid of that smell. NOW when I put something on the stove, I bring the timer into my computer room.

So that's why we say 'hen' in Scotland, just like you say love or honey as a term of endearment. Alright majic1 hen? HAHAHA

I think you had better tell them, it's not my place.

I've just spent the last 5 days trying to get rid of the smell of salmon from the entire house. God that smell lingers. I am never cooking salmon again.

Don't know which would be worse. Salmon or burnt eggs. Yuck!!!

Spelling

Post by ann3120 »

ol'gramma wrote:Those darn UKer's, always trying to fancy everything up

O/G
The quote above referred to the spelling of various words using either the UK or the US option
tyres/tires: neighbour/neighbor: curb/kerb.

May I now present for your consideration the following suggestions

:!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:

The European Union commissioners have announced that an agreement has been reached
to adopt English as the preferred language for European communications,
rather than German, which was the other possibility.

As part of the negotiations, the British government conceded that
English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a
five-year phased plan for what will be known as EuroEnglish (Euro for
short).
In the first year, "s" will be used instead of the soft "c". Sertainly,
sivil servants will resieve this news with joy. Also, the hard "c" will
be replased with "k". Not only will this klear up konfusion, but
typewriters kan have one less letter.
There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year, when the
troublesome "ph" will be replaced by "f". This will make words like
"fotograf" 20 persent shorter.
In the third year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted
to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible.
Governments will enkorage the removal of double letters,
which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre
that the horible mes of silent "e"s in the languag is disgrasful, and
they would go.
By the fourth year, peopl wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing
"th" by "z" and "w" by " v". During ze fifz year, ze unesesary "o" kan
be dropd from vords kontaining "ou", and similar changes vud of kors be
aplid to ozer kombinations of leters.
Und efter ze fifz yer, ve vil al be speking German like zey vunted in ze
forst place.

So . . . . . . maybe our spelling isn't so bad after all ! ! ! !

The Power of a Woman

Post by Cat »

The Power of Woman

There were 11 people - ten men and one woman - hanging onto a rope that came down from a helicopter.

They all decided that one person should get off, because if they didn't, the rope would break and everyone would die.

No one could decide who should go, so finally, the woman gave a really touching speech saying how she would give up her life to save the others, because women were used to giving up things for their husbands and children, giving in to men, and not receiving anything in return.

When she finished speaking, all the men started clapping.

Grandmother's Colors

Post by Cat »

Fun joke for all Grandmothers

Grandma's Colors

I didn't know if my granddaughter had learned her colors yet, so
I decided to test her. I would point out something and ask what
color it was.

She would tell me, and she was always correct, but it was fun for
me, so I continued. At last, she headed for the door, saying sagely,
Grandma, I think you should try to figure out some of these yourself!
