So, about deleting topics. *URGENT*
I can understand that it's an attempt to reduce the spam on the forum and all, but I just found out that the IRC topic was deleted.
The whole ruleset was written in there.
I can understand if you can't read all the topics, but now I have to constantly moderate the IRC channel to make sure that nothing against the rules happens. I really needed that topic so I could refer people to the rules whenever necessary, and now I can't, so I have to spend my own time making sure nothing that's unwanted occurs. That's not good.
Deleting topics won't help in the long run, either - It's not the topics themselves that are completely pointless, it's that the people writing them don't know that what they're writing qualifies as spam. Deleting topics won't help if the users don't learn what they're doing wrong. It's a more lenient way of trying to fix the problem, but it's also incredibly ineffective when a forum is at the state that ours is at.
There needs to be a more solid solution instead of just deleting topics. Be it moderators, suspending users, or something else, just deleting them without explaining what's wrong isn't helping.
I would suggest getting 2 or 3 moderators for each forum section (maybe even 4 or 5 for Off-Topic) to prevent this kind of problem to happen later on, since no one can moderate the entire forum and all of its threads.

Yeah, a mod wouldn't hurt.~xpr'd~ wrote:I really do think that there should be a mod or two*, because deleting topics really isn't helping.
On another note, locking them does serve the purpose of telling the user(s) that that specific topic is not to be discussed, since Patrick usually posts a message before locking, where deleting doesn't really help anything.

Totally agree, except that that is way to to many mods IMO.Qloof234 wrote:I can understand that it's an attempt to reduce the spam on the forum and all, but I just found out that the IRC topic was deleted.

Just two or three for the whole forum. (plus MS)

Deleting topics without even reading it is really irritating.
For Mod system I suggest following the old WonderForum method: 4 global mods moderating the forums. The moderation team would consist of 4 to 5 moderators, with 2-3 mature teenagers (I suggest Blast!10 and Qloof234) and 2 adults (I suggest popo and Liz).

I agree. Silly Stuff is silly! But what would be silly? Hmmm....Muzozavr wrote:Give us the "Silly Stuff" sub-forum back. It's about time.
I love that idea.tyteen4a03 wrote:For Mod system I suggest following the old WonderForum method: 4 global mods moderating the forums. The moderation team would consist of 4 to 5 moderators, with 2-3 mature teenagers (I suggest Blast!10 and Qloof234) and 2 adults (I suggest popo and Liz).
These ideas: I like.

And one power-hungry dude who isn't even 12 yet. (I suggest myself)tyteen4a03 wrote:Deleting topics without even reading it is really irritating.
