Can anybody explain it for me

As you all maiby know I come from the netherlands.

In the Netherlands we don't have st patricksday. Will anybody explain the meening of st patrickaday to me?

I like to learn about special things and days of your country.

Hi Rose,

St Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland.

St. Patrick's Day is always celebrated on March 17, a Thursday this year. This is a public holiday in Northern Ireland, Ireland and Montserrat. Saint Patrick's Day is a religious feast day and the anniversary of his death in the fifth century. The Irish have observed this day as a religious holiday for thousands of years.

I think someone posted a link in the St Patrick levels.

In the U.S. it is a big reason to celebrate, although mostly a tradition rather than any strong religious significance. A lot of people dress in clothes that have some green, a lot of taverns (at least in the midwest) serve green beer (Food coloring added) and some people use it as an excuse to get drunk and rowdy.

New York City usually has a big parade, because traditionally the Police Force there has traditionally had many people with an Irish background.

Hello Rose,

The History Channel link was taking so long to load on my computer that I gave up on it.

It will probably explain the story that St.Patrick was responsible for removing all snakes from Ireland. There are no poisonous snakes there and only one - the Adder/Viper - in England, Scotland & Wales.

However, the story is only legend and not based on any truth.

We'll just have to stay with the Little People (another name for Leprechauns), Rainbows and Pots of Gold. Much more fun, and much closer to Wonderland.

I know of a particular formulite that is from an extremely Irish city...I would love to hear his description of St. Patrick's Day...My husbands mother was from Ireland and St. Patrick's Day held huge religious significance for her and still does for his family. Major-major feast and celebration...lots of preparation too.

You are welcome Rose, I'm sorry but do you mean room or rhyme?

I live a few miles away from Downpatrick, the place where St Patrick is buried. A couple of years ago they opened the 'St Patrick Centre.'
This is a fantastic place to visit, next time I go, promise to take some pictures for you.

Do you remember inspector Clouseau (Peter Sellers)? He always asked for a reum instade of a room. It makes me laugh when I hear it of think of it. And you "name"reminds me of that.
