Spywareblaster!!

Post by Bearsland » Mon Mar 14, 2005 4:54 pm

Hey all,

Not sure if any others here use it, but there's a new version (3.3) available.

I highly recommend it; it keeps the nasties away, (and it's free!). I use it alongside Lavasoft Ad-aware and Spybot.

Hope you don't mind, Patrick. :)

I never know whether to download things like this or not. I have been sent emails on occasions with adds for spyware and adware, but I have read on certain sites that some applications professing to get rid of spyware and adware, can actually infect you with it.

How on earth do you know what to choose?

I have Norton AntiVirus 2005 which also includes spyware and adware detectors. It has found adware on my pc twice. I don't know if this is as good as a dedicated spyware application, but I feel a lot safer using it.

We have AVG and Zone Alarm - free versions. We get automatic updates all the time - we have been virus free now for ages

Anyone ever heard of these?

That's understandable, Pauline.

The bad guys actually prey on this. They use people's fear of this stuff to get you to use their products and half of them are just as you described. Yes, they will clear spyware and adware, only to replace it with their own.

Best advice is, if you are happy with your Norton and feel it's doing the job, stick with it. :)

Or, if you do decide to get something else, research it first or get a good, trustworthy recommendation.

Both fine and dandy programs Lillie. :)

I install these on all my computer builds for friends/family. If they wish to replace either with a 'paid for' program later, that's fine. But, for me, both are essential at system setup time.

btw. I use Kaspersky Antivirus; it's never let anything through. :)

Thanks Bear, I am glad we chose a good one. Will bear the other one you mentioned in mind. I was very tempted to include a description of you in the Photo Comp -but decided against it!

I thought it might.

So if I join, we have 2 blokes: Me, a young Robert Redford lookalike and Roger, an old Roger Whittaker  lookalike.

Sounds like easy points for everyone. :D

I'll look for a pic. :P

Good. Be prepared for some whacky descriptions.
