So editing <read title> is not available. I know old members did theirs. Was it only available a long long time ago? If not, how do I do it?

It's disabled due to anti-spam stuff. Whoever had once has it unchangeable now.

how does profile stuff cause spam? Do people put in random letters and stuff and make their profile page real long?

No, it was an error with the anti-spam measures taken IIRC. It caused the Location/etc. stuff to disappear if you changed... I think it was your signature? Not sure.
