Rest in peace, Kym. I hardly knew ya.
Rest in peace, Marinus. A bright star, you were ahead of me on my own tracks of thought. I miss you.

it cannot be real.Muzozavr wrote:I3180 on Twist Ending

No, it's real. Try harder. But yes, it's not as easy as it looks. There's a small trick to it.
Try the other one... once you try it you WILL be asking yourself the same thing... and it's also real.
I'm extremely close to 5050 on look before you leap but it's *just* out of reach so far...

Re: Highscore challenges
*bump*
It's possible to get 4240 solely by perfecting the old route, but this one second will require you to think.
EDIT: A-ha-ha-ha-ha, I am awesome. 2980 on Gridlock. I do believe this is the fastest normally possible on this level unless someone finds something even more insane than what I already do. I somehow managed to get 2990 but I do believe it's some sort of a bug/glitch/lag/whatever because this 2980 is one of those "so close" things, but I did the exact same thing again and couldn't replicate 2990. So yes, challenge is 2980.
EDIT 2: Before you ask, the 4250 above can be replicated 100% of the time, the challenge stays.

Here's another challenge, but not a highscore one:
Level: Platinum 19, "Escape from Fire World".
Challenge: Exit the level with both characters and collect all the bonus coins... and no rainbow coins whatsoever.
No glitches required, although you can use them. There's one particular minor quirk that may help you somewhat, but it's not really all that necessary. I don't know of any other glitches that can be used in this challenge.

Oh come on! You know your solution to TOW W10L4 "Return Trip" was not just the easiest, but also the fastest. Even performed quite slowly it was still faster than the normal way. Optimized and done at speed, there was simply no competition. Remember who made my score of 4690 a reality on that level. YOU.Marinus wrote:I have not the illusion that I can beat you in time on whatever level.![]()
(Besides, my real attempts at time-trialing levels started with the tutorial set and a few out of platinum, some (quite a lot, but not all) levels from TOW because LinkyNStoof posted his/her scores... so there are quite a few levels which I have not even tried to optimize so far. Those times and scores are dead easy to beat.)
But yes, if I did optimize a level, it's well done. Still, that doesn't mean you can't beat it. I believe in you!
The "no rainbow coins" one, right? Yep, it's quite hard, but it's easier than it sounds. Plus, you do not need to hurry in this challenge, which is always nice.Marinus wrote:But the other challenge I will take a look at soon.

I totally did not expect that! I almost spit my rice laughing!DEEMAN223344 wrote:There's an easy way to finish levels without coins. CHEATING.

You're very clever, but...
So, no, cheating is not the answer. The real solution does exist. Keep trying!and collect all the bonus coins...

Deeman, yes, that's something we can expect from you indeed. But there are also people (I hope most people) who want to play fair.
Muzo, perhaps I can beat you in time by finding an alternative solution. But probably most alternative solutions are found in the meantime. And actually I was talking about if it's a speedrace with an actionlevel or at least with playing both the same way in a shorter time.
But I'm happy that you believe in me. Thanks.

His idea is almost completely legit, though -- he just missed the "bonus coins" clause. I've seen some challenges where the idea is to find a breach in the "exact wording" of the rules and it can be satisfying.

The character speed is not variable. Once you have the route, you follow it through as fast as you can, waiting out only the few hazards you really have to wait out. It gets harder when there's more than one character, insanely hard in RTW and WSW since there's no switch delay. You can start moving, switch and immediately move, saving half-movements. It can be done once easily, but doing it more than once in a row without doing a mistake and LOSING time... Still this is only half the battle, quite possibly the lesser one.
On most levels the best possible route is not that obvious. It doesn't even have to be some big alternate solution -- sometimes simply reordering the actions, or collecting a coin formation one way and not the other can already save a bit of time. And if you do find an alternate solution that's faster, it's great.
But I'm happy that you believe in me. Thanks.
No problem.
boywhoflies wrote:Ok, not cheating...is it editing the level or hacking?
A-ha-ha-ha-ha, NO. It's a real solution for that level and it really does exist. No editing and/or hacking required. You just have to think outside the box. Besides, Marinus is right, there's no real difference here, you and DEEMAN223344 are both trying to bend the rules of the challenge and you don't need to do that... it's a 100% legit challenge with no wordplay. Honestly!

A very forgivable one, given how off-the-wall the whole procedure is.

Please don't talk about other people's mistakes, until you've reduced the amount of your own mistakes about, let's say, pretty much.DEEMAN223344 wrote:If there's any way, then MS made a mistake.
BTW, who do you mean with MS? Patrick? In that case, how do you know that Patrick made that level. As far as I know, most levels are made by other levelmakers.

It's a custom MOFI adventure.

I haven't tested this thoroughly. I already notice that unlike the Editor, when you play custom adventures this way, they seem to always start off with the magic glove, the spy eye and the glow gem already in your item bag.I'm not sure how to suppress this [...]
I've only tested this in MOFI demo v1.02. Hopefully it'll work on other versions as well. If not, let me know and I'll figure it out.
Hack: permanent "custom adventures" mode
This hack changes the "Start Game" in the main menu so that it goes into the custom adventures selection screen instead, just like wg.exe in the WA Editor package. That business with the special hubs and aborting repeatedly is no longer necessary. To apply:
1) Create a copy of demo MOFI's wg.exe file. We're making copies so that you have a choice of which configuration to run the game in. To run a particular hacked wg.exe, just double click to start it directly, without going through "Wonderland.exe" (which is only useful for selecting screen resolution).
2) open the copy of demo MOFI's wg.exe in a hex editor.
3) use the hex editor's search feature to find the following sequence of bytes (in hex):Double check that it only finds one occurrence of the above byte sequence in the file. If not then abort the remaining steps and let me know.Code: Select all
89 5C 24 04 E8 FC FF FF FF 89 04 24 E8 FC FF FF FF C7 05 00 00 00 00 02 00 00 00
4) You might want to make a note of the address/file location where the hex editor found the byte sequence in your copy of wg.exe. That way if you want to change it back or change it to something else, you can just go directly by address to where the bytes are in your particular copy of wg.exe.
5) Look for the byte "02" towards the end of the sequence, and change that to "00".
6) save the changes.
-------------------
Hack: empty item bag when starting a custom adventure
This hack suppresses the "freebies" (spy-eye, gloves, glow gem) from being added to the item bag when you start a custom adventure, so custom adventures will start off with nothing, just like in WA Editor.
If not then abort the remaining steps and let me know.Code: Select all
0F 85 FC FF FF FF C7 05 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 C7 05 00 00 00 00 03 00 00 00 C7 05 00 00 00 00 03 00 00 00 BB E9 03 00 00
4) You might want to make a note of the address/file location where the hex editor found the byte sequence in your copy of wg.exe. That way if you want to change it back or change it to something else, you can just go directly by address to where the bytes are in your particular copy of wg.exe.
5) Change the bytes "0F 85" at the beginning of the sequence to "90 E9".
6) save the changes.
-----------
The two hacks are independent, so you can create one copy of wg.exe and hack it so that it always does custom adventures but still gives you the freebies (good for testing perhaps), and another copy that is hacked so that it is both always-custom-adventures and no-freebies (essentially a MOFI version of WA Editor game player!).
