HORRIBLE STORY
I WROTE THIS BECAUSE I WAS BORED. IT SUCKS. READ IT TO MAKE FUN OF ME.
Caps aside, I'm sure this sucks, but I'm posting it in case somebody can get some enjoyment out of it somehow. It's narrated my the character for some reason. He has no name, so ha. Call her what you want.
(the he/she thing was intended, don't eat me)
---
It was after me. It was pointless to run. I'm a human, and he's a machine designed to be fast, designed to bring doom to me like Gary did with my friends. Running was hopeless, but I wouldn't be able to give up even if I wanted to. My stamina was out long ago, but you would need to put a bullet in my heart before I'm out. I ran as hard as I could.
I ran, feeling dirt lift in a faint cloud behind me and the friction heat up the soles of my shoes. I wondered how I got as far as I did. All allies I had at the start of the quest had perished. They were pebbles long thrown into the river of cruelty. When you hear a story of a hero stopping a villain, you know from the start the hero will win. You never worry about the hero because you know he will soon go about his everyday life, and the story brings you to hate the villain so you don't care how painful the defeat he goes through is. But this was real, and the stories have proved unrealistic. Maybe this is a story itself. Maybe I'm a form of writing created by a teenager for English class. Maybe I'm just somebody's imagination. I cannot know, I can just ponder.
Why did I get as far as I did? Why did I take this challenge, anyway, knowing I'm not strong enough, knowing from the start that it's like trying to power a city with a hamster? How did I survive long enough to be running up the steep slope of the mountain right now? Why does Gary bother wasting his time trying to kill me if I'm not a threat? I realized that it's because I have the heart of a lion. It doesn't matter to me if a choice is practical, just that if it works, it would have the best results. I'll keep fighting even if all my limbs are gone and the most logical thing to do would be to drown myself.
I came to a cliff. The logical option would be to make a U-turn and run some more. If I jumped, however, if The Machine landed wrong, even if I did too, he would be defeated. That's all I needed. If he was dead, I couldn't mind being dead too. 3 steps backward, and 5 forward.
I felt my head stretch away from my feet, attempting to keep up but doing poorly. If there wasn't my body in the middle like the chain on a nun-chuck my head would still be able to grab onto the cliff's ledge. The forest below wasn't seeming any closer. Maybe there was no forest, Maybe I was rushing toward a abyss below a illusion.
I looked up. The Machine was falling toward me. Before, it was a test of physical endurance and capability, now it's a test of something that cannot be trained. Which one of us could fall faster? I flipped myself over and tried to dive bomb.
I saw a bird fly by about 20 feet below me. How high up was I? The forest still looked the same as it did before I jumped. Maybe it jumped with me.
The Machine was flying straight downward. I hadn't known it could fly. It would catch up with me soon. When it did, I will be unable to hurt it and trying to block attacks dealt to me will just make my painful death longer. Those are poor reasons to not fight.
I wondered about what would happen to The Machine in the future. It's either Gary wins or I win. In one case, he would have fulfilled his only purpose of killing me, and in the other Gary would be wherever my friends are now, leaving The Machine with nobody to serve, maybe even dead himself. Sounds like he's doomed even if he wins, and if he wins the doom comes sooner.
I realized that it had caught up with me. Maybe it had realized what I did but couldn't stop even if it had intense feelings not to. It was too late to hope I landed in a lake and it on a tree sticking out like a spike. Now it was a new test, one that unlike 5 seconds ago could be trained, but he had trained his whole life while I got to the gym a few minutes ago to get a membership.
It swung it's fist at me so hard I flung into the side of the mountain, then it rammed me so hard my face drilled a hole all the way through. How was it so strong? How was I so strong? Anybody else would have died from that, but I was still there. There was a force deep inside keeping my body intact. One day I'll find out what. That is, if I have another day to look forward to.
I began to glow. First a faint orange, with went first to amber, then to gold, then became so bright I looked like a god-like being made of light. I had no idea what was going on, but I do have damaged memory. Maybe I'm not really a human. I may of not known what I am, but I did know that I could survive this fight.
The Machine came flying at me full speed, but I grabbed it's arm, and launched it straight up. I realized I was no longer falling as fast as gravity would pull. In fact, I wasn't falling at all. I was flying.
What am I?
The Machine came flying back, with spikes on his arms and shoulders spinning in a blur of motion around his neck. I don't know how I knew those were still his arms. Most people would think he changed his arms into a buzzsaw, because that's just what it looked like. I realized how to control my flight just in time to dodge.
Then I woke up.
I was still falling, the forest now moving. I'm not sure how I fell into that state at a time like that, but that's a question that can't be answered right away. I've had dreams like that my whole life, it's been the only thing I've ever dreamed about, me fighting in a new body with new strength. Why is another question to be solved later. That is, if I survive this encounter.
The forest was very close now. I saw a lake, and tried to swerve into it. I realized that The Machine is probably not waterproof and probably won't realize not to follow my path toward it. I had hope. When I jumped, I thought it would just kill both of us. I figured somebody else could come along and stop Gary from replacing the Earth with a explosion so huge it's held together by it's own gravity, now that me and my lost friends have cleared part of the way. Surely it's not like in stories where there's only one hero. Surely somebody else on the blue ball floating through space has the same dedication as me. Even if the last of the team, me, dies along the line, there's hope. Until Gary wins, should he win, there will be hope.
I was about to hit the water. I braced for impact, only to feel nothing. I was out cold as soon as I hit the water, probably because I was still dive bombing.
I woke up on shore a bit after, taking in air and shooting out water. My hair was soaked, my clothes were cold and heavy, and anything electronic I had on me was broken. I have no idea how I got on shore. Maybe a camper pulled me out of the lake and left because he needed to get something done. Maybe I only remember hitting the lake and actually landed here. It was in deep mud and would of kept me intact. Perhaps The Machine had a change of heart and caught me. There's a question that doesn't matter to me, but I might get a answer one day anyway. I have no idea how my bones are still in my body. I do know that The Machine is still out there, however. I didn't find a powerless version of him or any scrap parts. He's somewhere out there, wanting me dead, maybe thinking I already am and went to do whatever he's going to do when he's fulfilled his purpose.
Now, I move forward.

Well, it's intriguing literature, and (somewhat beyond me for a while).
It reminds me of stuff that I've read from various science-fiction magazines.
