Fractint for Windows

Post by VirtLands » Mon Aug 06, 2012 8:38 pm

Just more stuff you may enjoy:

There is this free user-friendly fractal program,
called Fractint for Windows,

has lots of nice options, and an extended gallery of images somewhere.

You can also get the DOS & Linux versions of this too:
http://virtlands.hasfiles.com/web/fractals/

More website links for all of the above:
http://www.nahee.com/spanky/www/fractint/
http://twegner.dyndns.org/fractint/ftp/current/

A few quick tips when running it:

Click "t" for fractal type:
Image

Click "x" for some important options:

{ For most cases, you should choose "Floating Point Algorithm = YES",
and set the maximum iterations to 2000 or more, the higher the iterations
means the higher quality resolution of the fractal. }

The images can be saved as bitmaps, (GIF,JPG,BMP),
or they can also be saved as parameter files.

FRACTINT is an old program, and as such,
it is apparently limited to 256 colors, and when you save parameter files,
they must be in the old style 8.3 short filename format
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/8.3_filename

The parameter files are really small, such as this sample I created,
and it's only 273 bytes.

People can share parameter files much more easily
than sharing image files, since image files can balloon in size quickly.

center-mag=-0.0614207/-1.13076/5.269201 params=2/0.5 float=y
maxiter=2000 inside=0 colors=@default.map
}

Here's one that's easy on the eyes, and it uses the NEON.MAP

params=2/0.5 float=y maxiter=4000 inside=bof60 colors=@neon.map
}

A map file is probably a coloring-method, and there are several MAP files
to choose from.

Click on "L" to choose your map file.]

I don't really understand how to use this program yet, but I made some neat stars! :D

Hi Jdl

You made the starfield with Fractint? :)

For fun, you might want to see this video: MandelBox Trip
