Where are my levels? HELP!!!

Post by Liz Mayhew » Sat Nov 17, 2012 2:38 pm

Hi All you Techno Know-How People

I've recently returned to the Forum after a long gap and just got around to making a new level. This is my 508th level so I should know what I'm doing.

I save the level in the editor and it's there when I play test the level. See screenshot 1. And all the other players' levels I've downloaded from the Forum are there for me to play.

So when I try to upload the level from C:/Program Files/MidnightSynergy/Return to Wonderland/Custom Levels, I cannot see the level, nor any of the other players' levels which I downloaded. See screenshot 2.

Any idea what's going on? Please help if you can.

What OS are you using? If it's Windows 7, I would recommend looking in:
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\

Once your there, it could be either in \Program Files\ or \Program Files (x86)\ (just look for any Wonderland or MS related folders).

That's the only thing I can think of.

If I remember correctly, Wonderland does not make use of the AppData folder.

The level could be hidden, or you might have multiple copies of RTW. Try searching for the level's filename in the Windows Search to see if it brings you somewhere.

I'm using Windows 7, but last time I played Wonderland I was using Windows XP. I did try searching for the filename, but no matches were found.

I'll try searching app data.

Thanks for your suggestions jdl and tyteen. :)

It is quite possible that you are playing lately within a sub-directory of CustomLevels: the game remembers the latest sub-directory you entered so you may not notice it unless you select "Go Back".

If that's the case, then all you need is to upload your latest levels from this subdirectory.

Looking forward to play your next level!

Yes, jdl is right, Windows 7 does not allow you to save anything to the Program Files folder, so it makes up its own "virtual" directory... I can't remember if it's hidden by default, so you may have to select Folder Options in the "Organize" Tab of Windows Explorer, then select the View tab, and select "Show hidden files and folders".

Where to install RTW

Post by VirtLands » Sat Nov 17, 2012 11:09 pm

{ When using Windows 7... }

best not to install games in "Program Files",

For a user-friendly experience

reinstall it in a path like "C:\Games\Wonderland\RTW"

and then you won't have those permission errors.

That would explain why I've never seen these errors before.

Windows is crap.

Oh thanks Patrick and Andy

That explains why I have to give permission all the time for various operations. So annoying!

I've had a fiasco and posted an earlier incomplete version of my level.

So I'll try to locate the level again and save it on my desktop, then I'll uninstall and reinstall on the path suggested.

Fingers crossed ... :D

I've uninstalled and reinstalled in C: root directory. I wasn't given an option to install in games.

It now all runs smoothly and I can see levels I've made and downloaded.

Thank you all so much for your help :D :D
