I couldn't get on XAT when Emerald was there. Emerald, if you ever see this -- I resign that game. I stink at rook endgames and having to defend a worse one is harsh. Also, I'm not usually as lousy as I was during most of that game -- I was feeling totally awful for some reason.
Rest in peace, Kym. I hardly knew ya.
Rest in peace, Marinus. A bright star, you were ahead of me on my own tracks of thought. I miss you.

so, after six months of training, I finally managed to reach this round. Because I'm Sparta!
well, I'm the black team, but still, six months of training.....A military base for new recruits!

Well, I like to use unfamous gambits from Central Europe
.
Opening:
1. e4; any
2. d4
unlocks place for both Bishops and Queen
, making Knights much more useful and allowing you to do Kingside Castling in the next three moves (move the left Bishop and left Knight from the bottom collumn and then you can castle), making the Rook attack middle collumn of the board early in the game
...
...but every experienced chess player knows that gambit is an opening when your opponent takes one of your pieces. I expected to have an easy play, forcing Emerald to give me an ability of setting up a Center Game (the Queen standing at d4), as most of the players do when they see me doing 1. e4; 2. d4 the first time.
Well, Emerald didn't take my Pawn
, so this was the first suprise (my father and my best friend always do so
), making my opening a Beyer Gambit (with an option to set up a Danish Gambit, which would help me a lot if I had thought about it
) instead of a Central Gambit. Anyway, I had to continue playing
.
In the end of the game I forgot about Emerald's Pawn in my strategy
, so I made 2 major mistakes
that allowed Emerald to checkmate me
. Congratulations to him - that game was a valuable lesson for me.

1. e4 e5
2. d4 e:d
3. Qd4 Nc6
And then you have to do something with your queen immediately. It's not a bad opening, but I never really liked it as white. The attack happens too soon, so black can defend and eventually launch a counterattack. Which isn't bad by itself, but having initiative and not being able to do anything with it is a bit disappointing.
EDIT: Also 1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 leads to French Defense.
2. d4 e:d

so black responds with
4. ... Ne5
and I can do
5. Qd4
again.
Second option is to give white a check by
4. Qe5
forcing black to play
4. ... Be7
but then black is two moves from Kingside Castling, which totally ruins Center Games for white.

Emerald141 while on the chat let out an opinion that he didn't want others to know so I used this opportunity to make him play a game of chess against me by threatening to post his secrets on the forum. He was white, I was black.

GrandMaster Chess 2.5
For those of you with Windows 7 or Vista,
you'll find that it includes this game called Chess Titans.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chess_Titans
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't play chess much anymore, so I leave it to others to play.
Free game of Grandmaster Chess 2.5 for this Saturday only;
http://game.giveawayoftheday.com/grand- ... chess-2-5/
I've always found the 2D (top-down) views to be easier to cope with.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Examples of cubic chess:
Displayed here is Raumschach 5×5×5 gamespace [on the left], and Millennium 3D Chess, [on the right].
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three-dimensional_chess

I just thought of something funny, since there are apparent 3D versions of chess, (=cubic chess),
then can there also be 4D chess ?
Now that would be very weird and hard to play, something for a genius.
Some guy named Ben has already proposed a form of 4-Dimensional chess,
I've attached his details here (PDF), in case you'd want to study it. Whether this can be changed or improved upon, I don't know.
The zipped PDF requires a PDF reader; In case you need one, you can install the Foxit:
Foxit Reader: http://www.foxitsoftware.com/Secure_PDF_Reader/ )
According to Ben, this would be the opening array for 4D chess:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I discovered that spherical chess is a real game you can download and play:
Supposedly the chess game wraps around a globe, therefore the board is "endless".

Here are some more artists' concepts on spherical chess:
(I've yet to find a spherical chess that plays like this, that would be awesome.)

and sadly I sold it, and wish I hadn't

MNIK took a picture of the game and edited it in paint. He selected the white queen and moved it to that position on MS paint.
That does not trick me, TRY HARDER, MNIK.
