Autodesk 123D Catch

Post by VirtLands » Mon May 13, 2013 11:31 pm

HI, I just discovered this excellent program.

It's a free program from AutoDesk that transforms your
photos into 3D models.

123D Catch & Carry
http://www.123dapp.com/catch

1st: Download and install its program, = 75 MB.

123D Catch, YouTube tutorials:

The program works hand-in-hand with its server, (so you'll need internet).
Also, you'll be required to register [free] with it, which is easy.
You can do a custom register or register with Twitter, Facebook, etc.

For best results take several pixtures of an object, each picture
differing from the others in slight angles.
Do at least 3 pix, the more pix the better.

THe program (132D Catch & Carry), will do some analysis of your
pictures and then transform it into a 3D model.
The model can then be exported into a favorite format, such
as .FBX or .OBJ, .... (does not do .3DS)

You'll need to find an external program to transform .FBX to .3DS,
or else ask one of us members to convert it for you.

You can then maybe use these model creations as models for RTW { CustomModels } . Image

..other related free programs from AutoDesk..

123D Design , another free program. = 361 MB

123D Make , = 70 MB

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can browse through online models created by others

My guess is that most of those formats are .OBJ ;
These can be converted to .3DS using special programs.

TurboSquid is another website that has lots of models, many of these are free models.

When I have more free time I'll come back to this topic. I just discovered it today.
