It's a boy!

Post by Robbie » Tue May 10, 2005 6:04 am

A little early but more than welcome in our house was the safe arrival of our #3 this morning Australian time - Simione, a little brother for Vani & Lusi-Ann.

Fijians have a saying that if a baby is taking a long time to come out it must be a girl - they're busy doing up their hair & makeup for the big entrance  . That was pretty much true for our 2 older girls - Simi was out in relatively no time at all!

Weighed in at 3.32kg (7lb 5oz) with a beautiful crop of black hair & brown (reluctant to open) eyes.

Thanks for all the well-wishes. Mother & son are doing just fine. Dad is still wearing yesterdays work clothes...

Whoa, way to go Robbie. :D :D :D :D :D

He's absolutely adorable. Gorgeous mop of hair, and beautiful big brown eyes (he doesn't take after you then   ). And what a lovely pic of your hand.

Do you think you could email him to me for the afternoon, so that I can have a cuddle?

You've got your work cut out for you now you have a boy, they're nowhere near as accomodating as girls, but just as much fun when they start squirting water fountains at you.

Congratulations to you both, but mostly your wife cos she did all the hard work.

CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!

He is gorgeous Robbie - all that hair :P My two came out looking like little baldy diddy men

Boys are easier than girls in my opinion - mind you, I am biased!

Well done again - your two girls will turn into instant mother hens with their new brother

Thanks so much guys!

I was relieved to get home & have a good (long & hot) shower and get into some clean clothes.

We took the girls to the hospital last night to see him. Vani was just proud as punch of her new baby. Lusi-Ann was just a bundle of excitement. He's in one of those little mobile cribs hospitals here have. As soon as she saw him she wriggled down out of my arms, climbed up the side of the crib, tipped it over, baby rolled... ... fortunately the Simi didn't have too far to roll before bumping into the side. Suffice to say I held onto her after that. She kept giving very gentle kisses on the head & turning to everyone & laughing.

I took Lusi-Ann home then & Tokasa's sister, husband & daughter (who are staying with us - their daughter is just 17 days older than Vani) went to the hospital with a heap of really nice food while I put Lusi-Ann to bed.

They all came home later & Vani gave me a little report on the going on in baby's nappy (big #2 & #1). We then had a litle talk about the difference between boys & girls when she also reported a "big circle"  It had to come & I'm sure we'll have the discussion again... and again...

Popped into the hospital to see Tokasa & Simi again this morning before going to work. Tokasa's doing fine. She's been on the drip since yesterday morning & they removed it some time through the night. Still a bit dizzy sitting up but she's doing well. Little Simi's just taking his time at everything. I did take the computer with me DG but when I started setting it up in the crib my wife took one look at me and, well...

I'll post some more pics after with the big sisters when I get them. It was a little hard to get any last night they were so excited.

Did you get my em Pauline? Probably loses something in translation... I have to admit the thought of those water fountains scares the daylights out of me. Is it really that bad? :?

You & me both OB

We finally decided on a full name for him...
Simione (after Tokasa's brother) Jan-Arie (after my dad's father - from Rose's home turf Holland) Joshua (from the bible) Noordzy.
Bit of a mouthful huh?

Anyway, will keep you all posted.
Thanks again

I'm sure with a name like that, there will be no-one else in the world with the same one. Totally unique. I think it will be just plain Simi most of the time though won't it?

Get a move on with those pics, can't wait to see them. :P

Congratulations!
How very exciting for you. He is absolutely darling.
How exactly do you pronounce his name? I don't believe I have seen that before.
Try and get some rest so you can let your wife get some rest so you can get some rest.........

Hey Janet,

I'm not sure how to write out stuff like this but I'll give it a go...
Si (as in sin) me (as in doe-ray-me... I can hear you all breaking out in song... Doe a deer... sorry where was I, oh yeh...) o (say the letter O) knee
Yarn-Are e(say the letter E) - Rose you better correct me if this is wrong... dutch for John isn't it?
Joshua (...)
Noor (as is naughty) d (sound out the letter D) z (say the letter Z - zee, not zed)

Reading all that makes me feel a sorry for the little fella...

Big hugs right back :D

Tokasa should be home either Saturday/Sunday all going well.

Brought them home Saturday morning - both doing OK. Still have some photos to get out of the camera...

In the meantime I thought this was a laugh (in hindsight) too good to pass up.

The other night we were having our evening worship (lesson study) - having finished the girls lesson on Daniel & the lions den, my brother in law & I started going through our lesson study for the day when the little lion (Lusi-Ann, 2 in July) came through carrying a big glass of water alternating between taking a big drink, gasping, drooling, setting down the glass, tipping it, picking it up, taking a big drink...

It wasn't anything out of the ordinary (at first thought). We have one of those fridges with a ice/water dispenser in the door and she's more than capable of getting her own cup & filling it herself. I did think it unusual that she had a glass (as there are only plastic cups in her drawer) and she never fills it so full... the thought passed & we continued our study while she continued wandering around drinking intermittantly.

After a few more minutes my wife came out of the room having put Simi down to sleep and noticed Lusi-Ann. "What are you two doing?", she directed at us, "She's drinking out of Grandma's flower vase!"

Taking the glass from her we went to the dining room where all the flowers had been put and sure enough, there were Grandma's flowers neatly arranged over the chairs & floor...

I hope she's ok after drinking flower water.

They do the cutest things at that age. At least they seem cute later on, not always at the time though.

I want to see those piccies. Going on vacation tomorrow so I'll have to wait till I get back. Aw!

Glad you're all doing well. :D

Hey guys,

I did promise an update didn't I??? Thanks Cat for the reminder 8)

Little Simi's now 7 weeks old... or is it 8?... no 7. I have a picture at home I'll post later. Growing fast now... and has eating habits more akin to a medium size horse than a baby. Had his first smile this morning!

Two other stories from his big sisters.
Miss 4. On Tuesday when I went to pick up Vani from preschool she proudly showed off her (first) wiggly tooth. The teachers said she'd been scaring them with it all day moving it back & forth with her tongue... She said she was a little scared & we had a bit of a heart to heart on the way home. I reassured her that she'd loose all her teeth... and you should have seen her eye's pop out of her head... realising that that phrasing probably wasn't as reassuring as I'd intended I told her they wouldn't all come out in one go & that she'd also grow new teeth. Ah! that was better.

Miss nearly 2. Lusi-Ann still has her milk bottle for bed... and if she wakes up through the night a little extra. One night last week that little extra was obviously more than her nappy could handle. Removing all the clothes/nappy & stripping the bed for airing & drying I brought her back to bed with me with some more of the aforementioned milk. I changed her & once again returned to lala land. I awoke some time later, though it would appear not before Lusi-Ann did. I had left the Curash powder on the bedside table... and... well... see for yourself.

From the state of her mouth she looks like she's been eating it.

Ooooh, they are little tinkers at that age, aren't they though. My two still do things like that.....and they are both well into their twenties.

I love reading your tales of fatherhood, you have a lovely way with words.

If you don't hurry up with that photo, he will have graduated. :P

OK girls, OK...

A couple more to keep you going.

1. Nanna & me (I quite liked this one with the light coming through the window in the background)

2. My big sisters (for those that came too late - I'm an Aussie, my wife is Fijian - 1st cousin on right)

3. Sometimes my only defence from a nervous breakdown is my yaca (yaca [pronounced 'yatha']=namesake - my wife's sister)

Lovely piccies Robbie,

Got a bit confused with the descriptions cos the pics come back to front. Wondered why your wife's sister was blonde. Then realised the first one is at the bottom.

Simi is bloody gorgeous, if I'm allowed to say that. Bet the girls can't leave him alone. You best make sure Lusi-Ann doesn't start feeding Curash to him too. You know how they like to share things.
