Virus Warning

Post by mette » Thu Jun 02, 2005 2:29 pm

Hi all,

If you recieve a mail from either webmaster(@)mail.dk, administrator(@)mail.dk or register(@)mail.dk with the subject line containing a warning that your e-mail account is being shut down

PLEASE DELETE IT IMMIDIATELY!!!!

I was fooled earlier today and didn't delete one of these mails. It incapacitated my firewall and my antivirus program and God knows what else.

I bring you this warning because it works like a worm that (supposedly) sends itself to every address in my adress book and that include some of you.

Now five and a half hours later, I think I have my computer back under control again - Phew.

I hope you won't be fooled if you get one of these virus infected mails.

Take care :D

Hi Mette, Thanks for the warning! It sounds like it did a real job on your computer. Glad to hear you have it sorted out.

I received a alert yesterday from my Antivirus program provider about a worm called "W32.Sober.O@mm". They said it comes in english or german. Here is a link with more information and a removal tool - should anyone need it:

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/av ... .o@mm.html

I have also been getting a number of "phish" emails supposely from "Paypal" and from "South Trust Bank". I don't have a Paypal account and am not a customer of that bank. However, I called the bank and they confirmed it is a "phish". Their recommendation was to not answer it and to delete it immediately. I also found out that some banks now have a website so that customers can forward these emails to them for investigation. If you are interested, ask your bank if they have such a site.

Thanks Gen :D

I think it was a variation of that sober virus I got, but I'm confident it's gone now. :D :D :D
