Laura, I'm so sorry Emily is ill. Just to let you know, though, they generally do get sick in cycles. They are well for a long period, then it seems everytime you turn around they're sick and you have to take them to the doctor. One of the things I learned quickly about strep is that they are ususually sensitive to light. So if she complains that lights are too bright or wants to sit in a darkened room, you can usually bet the sore throat is strep and she needs to see a doctor. Hope she's well soon.
Where is everyone????
Thank you Cathy. It was a relief.

Thanks Dr. Sharon for all the helpful advice, I've not had a lot of experiance with all these childhood illnesses, & I'm not one that rushes to the Dr.'s office for every cough or sniffle. It's amazing to me Emily has survived
Emily rarley runs a tempature when she's sick so I never think she's as sick as she is. I guess I should tell you all, when she first started breaking out in spots with the chicken poxs I thought she had gotten into chiggers
(remember I'm from Colorado, we don't have chiggers there) so I drug her to my work so some of the ladies I work with could tell me what's up...
See, I told you all I was blonde
Sharon I'm very glad things with your son are going to be ok. I'm sure you were a bit nervous for awhile.
Caffee, as a matter of fact I DO have hopgrassers

Cathy, I got everything else, but what the heck are greenjawires?

Hi Laura - don't feel bad. We went to Oklahoma and -yes- I got into some chiggers, and when we got home and the itching began and the spots came up, I thought I had chicken pox of the legs ! ! ! ! Eventually had to go to the Dr.laura n. wrote: I guess I should tell you all, when she first started breaking out in spots with the chicken poxs I thought she had gotten into chiggers

My grandson helps grandpa in the garden, Comes running in to tell me we have maytoes with green jawires. which are the little green worms
or caterpillars aka catpillows.
I hope his speech gets better by the time he starts school,
I'll have to go and translate.

Has anyone ever put clear nail polish on their chigger bites? I'm from AZ so I don't know anything about chiggers, but I went to visit the in-laws in TN and came back with chigger bites. My mother-in-law told me to put clear nail polish on them to "suffocate" the eggs they lay under the skin. It worked like a charm! I was just wondering if that was a coincidence because it sounded like a crazy remedy. My legs got better quickly, but I walked around with nail polish spots for a few days. Quite attractice I must say.
I'm glad to hear some of you say you don't run your kids to the doctor for every sniffle. Some parents are way too paranoid these days. My son rarely goes to the doctor. Usually just for yearly check ups, but he's not a sickly kid at all. I'm not big on medications either unless they're really necessary like for strep throat. Otherwise I let the body do it's job. Too many people just throw down antibiotics for everything, which is a very bad thing to do. That's why there has become a problem with antibiotic resistance.
Laura, I hope Emily feels better soon. Strep is definitely not fun, but neither is chicken pox. I think kids who get these illnesses early and whose bodies build up natural antibioties tend to be much healthier adults.

Andrea, being that you live in AZ, you can only imagine how freaked out I was when I first moved here from Colorado. I never experianced ticks, chiggers, flees or any of the other millions of "prehistoric" bugs that missouri seems to host.
Last summer (my 1st summer here) I hardley went outside, everytime I did it was an experiance like Alfred Hitchcocks, The Birds, I was attacked by june bugs, japanese beatles, HUGE bees (about the the size of your thumb) some kinda giant red fuzzy ant & we won't even go into the snakes or other "critters" that are plentiful here. To be in the "great outdoors" here, is truly taking your life into your own hands. I'm well armed with bug repelants of ALL types, sprays, wipes, candles, if it's made I've bought it.
including clear nail polish
Thanks for asking about Emily, she's doing very well today. If I didn't know she had strep throat I'd not even know she was sick.
I just hate having to stay home because she's contagious, but only 1 day of that, thank god.

I'm so glad she's respomding well, Laura.
It can be frustrating to have to stay out of work like that. Hopefully you have an understanding employer. So many aren't.
Andrea, that is a common remedy for chiggers. Another is salt water baths/soaks. Or swimming in the ocean (much more fun). The salt water kills them as well as helping with the itching. I've never had them, but Rob gets them all the time with his job. I think he's much more comfortable with the salt water than the nail polish.

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE
Emily is fine & I'm taking her to pre-school, my sister & I are going shopping ALL DAY, WITHOUT KIDS
I'll tell ya all about it later.
Thanks for the home remedies for insect control, I believe in home remedies, more so than traditional medicine sometimes. I'll keep these tid bits in the back of my mind for future reference
HAVE A GREAT DAY ALL

Shopping was FANTASTIC
We shopped and bought things for ourselves,
then we went & had our make-up done , then we both got our hair highlighted & cut. My husband doesn't like the hair cut, (to short) but he likes the color
I haven't spent an entire day on myself since before Emily was born.. it feels good I think I'll make a habit of it, ya this gives me an idea....
I'm officially deeming 1 day a month to be "Mommy Day" any day will do, but you can only do things for yourself not any other member of your family. What do you think ladies? Want to join me next month... we certainly deserve it
Oh ya and "Mommy Day" does not mean Mothers Day is ignored, we still get that day for the rest of the family to "pamper" us.

Hope you have an enjoyable visit. I've just finished reading a book that was set in Berlin not long after the end of the war.
About 1948-1950. I'm sure many, many things have changed since then, and you will have a much nicer time than the book characters did. Like London, all the re-building has been done, and improvements made.
Have a wonderful time, and don't miss us too much

I'm here - sort of.
Have been busy cle... uh I mean "REARRANGING" too.
We've just listed our home for sale, so guess we'll have to do quite a lot of cle... uh I mean "REARRANGING"
Not my favourite hobby - would much rather be outside cutting grass and gardening. Oh well.
Now we have to go shopping, so we can eat.
