Post any riddles here
Hi everyone!
I'm searching the remote corners of my mind for more usless info for another quiz level.
But I found some riddles I couldn't use and decided to post them to see if anyone could solve them.
(Extra credit: tell me where I found them!)
What has roots as nobody sees,
Is taller than trees,
Up, up it goes,
And yet never grows?
Thirty white horses on a red hill,
First they champ,
Then they stamp,
Then they stand still.
Voiceless it cries,
Wingless flutters,
Toothless bites,
Mouthless mutters.
It cannot be seen, cannot be felt,
Cannot be heard, cannot be smelt.
It lies behind stars and under hills,
And empty holes it fills.
It comes first and follows after,
Ends life, kills laughter.
This thing all things devours
Birds, beasts, trees, flowers
Gnaws iron, bites steel,
Grinds hard stones to meal,
Slays king, ruins town,
And beats high mountain down!
Can you answer them all?
BTW feel free to post your riddles here to!

I think the last one is 'time'.
The second I think is 'teeth'.
The fourth one I was thinking was 'space' but not sure it fits with all the clues, it might be 'emptiness'.
I thought the third one might be 'heart' but I've never heard my heart muttering and I don't think it's ever bitten me.
I've read The Hobbit but I don't remember these riddles.

Here's some more riddles:
What can run but never walks,
has a mouth but never talks,
has a bed but never sleeps,
has a head but never weeps?
Feed me and I live.
Give me to drink and I die.
What am I?
I am light as a feather, yet no man can hold me for long.
What am I?
If you break me, I'll not stop working.
If you can touch me, my work is done.
If you lose me, you must find me with a ring soon after.
What am I?
I occur once in a minute, twice in every moment,
but not once in a hundred thousand years.
What am I?

I got
1. A river,
2.
3. your breath
4.
5.
You guys are good
Freightrain you have me completely stumped
And if Patrick is right, I haven't read the Hobbit since 7th grade, many, many, many moons ago.. I'm more into Dr. Seuse & Dick and Jane these days.

Ok, now that I see Sharon agrees with me on # 4 , would someone explain
the third line to me: If you lose me, you must find me with a ring soon after.
This was what had me second guessing myself, I don't get it
I think stinkers rescue has fried my brain

That's more like a mobile phone if you ask me. If you lose it, you can find it again by ringing it.laura n. wrote:Ok, now that I see Sharon agrees with me on # 4 , would someone explain

Belive it or not, I woke up in the middle of the night & figured out the
"I lost my heart to Love" thing
so I knew the heart was the right answer.
Ya know I use to wake up in the middle of the night & think about work
Now,I wake up and think about wonderland
I'm not sure if that's sick or not, but I sure have happier days
