Don't blow your buffer!!!

Post by wolfcub » Thu Sep 29, 2005 8:36 am

I was reading the paper at work the other day (I have a very exciting job), when I spotted a list of new office jargon that I just had to share, so here they are:

404 - Clueless, from the web error message: "404 Not Found"

Alpha geek - The most technically gifted person in the office

Blowing your buffer - Losing your train of thought

CLM - A Career Limiting Move like trashing your boss

Dilberted - To be used and abused like the cartoon character Dilbert, office loser

Dorito syndrome - Feeling empty and dissatisfied

Elvis year - Someone's peak year of popularity

Flight risk - Someone suspected of planning to leave a company

GOOD job - A Get-Out -Of-Debt job

High dome - An egghead, scientist, PhD

Irritainment - Entertainment that annoys you but you still watch

Keyboard plaque - The disgusting buildup of crud on keyboards

Meatspace - The real world as opposed to the virtual one

Mouse potato - The online generation's answer to the couch potato

Ohnosecond - The time between making an error and realising it

Percussive maintenance - Bashing a device to get it to work

Plug-and-play - A new person that doesn't require training

Tourists - Those who take training classes as holidays

Treeware - Hacker slang for printed material

Uninstalled - Being fired; also known as Decruitment

Vulcan nerve pinch - Position required to reach all the appropriate keys for certain commands

World Wide Wait - The real meaning of WWW

Xerox subsidy - Nicking photocopies from work

Yuppie food coupons - £20 note from a cash machine

Let me know what you think. I had to leave some out due to forum etiquette.
