I think she didn't tell him her real age when they met, and she kept it a secret until they were married. Am I right Mo? :P

Wrong Poops! :P I believe in 'Tell the truth and shame the devil'.

John thought I was around 29 when we met, in actual fact I was 36.
Before leaving N Ireland to return home, I bought him a key ring with '29 and holding' on it. He still has it even though it's a bit worn (like me) and I continue to 'hold'.

Laurie Lou, I moved here within six weeks from the day I met John.
How's that for fast working????

Six weeks was rather quick Auntie Moo - but it was obviously love at first sight :P And, having met you both in the lovely home you have built together - it is plainly obvious that you are still as much in love as you were when you first met - sweeeeeeet :P :P :P

Bjarne and I met at a disco  . I had recently moved to the town Middelfart (yes, I know it's a funny name in English  ) and only knew two people here  .

It was a Saturday evening and none of them was available, so I said to myself: "I will not sit alone and be bored on a Saturday evening. I'm going to explore the night life of this town".

I ended up meeting Bjarne :D and he practically moved in during the next couple of days   How's that for fast?

It's almost 4 years ago now.... :D and I'm glad I was bored that night  :D

WOW Mette - that was fast    And having met you both too - I can see you were made for each other (two complete nutters  )

I met Stan at work - he wooed me with little funny poems on post-it notes everyday for about 2 months - I finally gave in and went out for lunch with him. Twelve years later and I still haven't stopped laughing :P

Hi Laura - you OK hon - long time no speak! :P

YES - I still have every one. Also every card he ever sent me. I sometimes get them out and re-read them. We used to put stuff like W.Y.W.H.W.M.N. (wish you were here with me now). They got a bit "saucy" as the relationship went on of course 8)

Wish I had a scanner they I could show you some of them!

By the way laura - I thought your "love the first night" comment was brilliant

ooo, this is a nice thread ... here's my story (if you're interested) ... for months my friend and I had hit the town on a Saturday night, for no reason in particular we thought we'd venture beyond the ring road and try a new pub this one night. Who should stagger in shortly afterwards but this really drunk fella with a LFC hat, scarve, shorts (worn outside his jeans  ) and a little LFC teddy hanging off his jacket singing his head off - Liverpool Football Club had won a match that day and didn't we know about it. He was clearly the happiest man alive but verging on the irritating after a couple of hours :x The following week we went there again and the same guy was sober this time but ... he remembered my name (surprised he could remember his own name the week before) and it made me feel all special ... 18 years later he still makes me feel special... :D :D
I'd probably feel more special if he picked his clothes up off the floor, put the top on the toothpaste, put the seat down (you know the one I mean), picked the tea towel up once in a while ... only kidding    , he's the BEST :P

Well, my story isn't glamorous. My husband and I met at college. We were both in Jazz band, he on trombone and me on piano. He thought I was a sophomore at college. We are only 4 mnths apart, me being the older one. Anyway, I was dating a guy at the time. My husband and I would meet for lunch with maybe another friend or two. It wasn't until we started our sophomore year that we went to see Princess Diaries. After the movie, we were standing by my car. At the time, I was house sitting in Wichita for my parents and it was Sunday and so I was needing to get home. We were by my car and he put his arms around me. He leaned his head down and kissed me. Afterwards, we were both a little surprised.

As for the boyfriend at the time, he had been talking about me behind my back saying that I wouldn't give him what he was wanting and you can guess what it was. We had broken up about two weeks before this movie date. So, I guess you could say it was the Princess Diaries that brought us together  We dated for a month under 2 years, found out we were pregnant, planned and got married in 3 weeks. (never again) To this day, things are still good, 2 years later and 2 children.

Posted: Wed Mar 17, 2004 4:04 pm Post subject: St Patrick's Day

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thought for today:- If you are thin skinned, don't marry an Irishman...

Here's why:

My husband, on our wedding day said to me "You look like a hundred dollars"

He used to tell everybody.... "I take my wife out every week (impressed?) and buy her soap powder"
"Every Christmas she gets a new ball and chain, to attach her to the cooker"

He remembers my birthday...... The Argentinians had a battleship called The 25th May!

The other day he said " I love you twice as much today as the first day we met...... There's twice as much of you"

He is very funny, years ago I was very ill after an operation. John had to do everything for me.
One day after giving me a bath, he told me to stick my tongue out.
He said.. " You look like a wee zip fastener"
To help you understand that one, I weighed 6 stone and had 46 clip stitches down my front... God! he made me laugh.

It was our wedding anniversary last week.... we got married on the very first Comic Relief Day!
Doesn't that tell you something about us?????????

I wouldn't change him for all the spuds in purdy ground.

Happy St Paddy's day to all of you, enjoy your soda bread, potato bread and Irish Whiskey.

M.A.D.

I wasn't always the upstanding P.T.A. mom I am today.

This is so nice, so romantic. It reminds me of the last time I was in love....
Aunty Mo, sorry to say, I would LOVE to meet an Irish man. My father was Irish, from Cork. I loved and admired him greatly, my gentle giant. I still miss him.

Well Jacks, the next time an invitation is sent out for the nutters to come here, you will have to join us. I'm sure I could find a nice Irishman, does it matter if he's north or south?

I only came here for a weekend to visit friends and look what happened.

It could happen to you too Jacks. 8)

Me and Nev met at a disco too. Grab-a-Granny night. That's when all the singles and divorcees (and some who are just looking for a fling!!) go out on the pull. I had gone out with my mate just for a laugh, and Nev had popped in after a darts match. He knew my mate from way back, he worked with her sister's husband. So he came over to talk to her and spotted me. We got chatting, and had so much in common I felt like I'd known him for years.

After the disco, he took me home, and wasn't the usual pushy kind expecting a reward. I thought, 'What a gentleman'. I had made arrangements to meet him again two weeks later at the same disco, but he made such an impression on me I couldn't wait till then. I knew his name but not where he lived, but I got the telephone book and went right through the ones with his name until I found him.

We met up a couple of days later, and the rest is history as they say. It did take us 14 years to get around to getting married, he had been married twice before and I had been married once, and neither of us was in a hurry to make the same mistake again, so we waited until we knew we would be together forever.

I proposed to him on Valentines Day 2000 and we got married a few months later in June. I think we both met our soul mates that night. Aah!

BTW I've never heard "out on the pull " before, just what is it you're pulling for?

Here's my story of marrying the "Rich" man. (His name is Rich).

I was in my car on the way to Florida from Michigan to work at Disney World. I had all my possessions packed into the Geo Metro (sad, that they all fit there). On the way, I stopped in Missouri to spontaneously interview for a secretarial job. For those unfamiliar with USA geography, Missouri is NOT on the way to Florida.

After the interview, the Human Resources lady asked if I'd be willing to interview for a computer support job that had just come open that morning. I said yes, and was hired on the spot after the interview. I called Disney world and told them I would not be showing up for work. they informed me that they had to record of my starting work there anyway ( SHOCK  ) so it didn't matter to them.

When I started work the next day, I was replacing a guy named Rich. He trained me for my new job. We started dating a month later. We hid it from the entire office for 2 years before anyone figured it out - we showed up at the Office Christmas party together. imagine their surprise.

A year after that while visiting Michigan in the dead of winter, he took me out to the Lake (Lake Michigan) which was frozen solid for a long way out. We walked out to the edge, and Standing on the lake itself, he asked me if I would marry him.

the kicker: I told him if he ever got around to asking me, I'd say yes. He rolled his eyes and explained "That's what I'm doing!!! I'm asking you."

So, I was proposed to and didn't even notice!

Nice stories, Loirae and Cathy, I already knew about Poops and Nev. :P

On the pull? It used to be called 'talent hunting'.

Whenever John and me tell the story, we explain the difficulties with our different accents. I always say "I couldn't understand a word he was saying so answered 'yes' to everything, that's how I ended up here."

John's reply "I only asked her for a loan of a fiver!" :P

Shorty! Boyfriends! Whew! Rich was not impressed to find out I'd kept a list of men I'd dated (kissed, nothing more  ). And a world map with pins in the countries from which they hailed (USA having the largest total, of course, but 9 others, too). All started when I was 16. He was honored to have the grand (and last) placement of #100 when I was 22 yrs old. Magic number, I tell you.

Unfortunately, my little sister found it and is in the process of trying to break my record. Dad is NOT impressed!

No, he's definitely not the shy one!!!! I just thought it would be nice if I did the asking. It wasn't much of a surprise to him to be honest, we had been talking about it for ages, but seeing as it was leap year I thought it was my duty.    I proposed by text message while he was at work, so he had to read it out to all his workmates.

The 'pull' isn't a dance Cathy, it what you call it when you're out looking for someone to chat up, hence the chat up line 'Get your coat, you've pulled'.

I met my husband thru some mutal friends, needless to say, I didn't like him  I guess I needed glasses that year (1992) cause he looked awesome from a distance. He was dressed in holey jeans, cut off t-shirt, cowboy boots and a cowboy hat. I thought "A trip to walmart will fix that right up", then I got closer and he had tobacco stuck between his teeth, GROSS
Well what I didn't realize was I guess I really did like him, cause as I would take my friends out, I always got them to invite him. Then a short time later, I got a job at the same place he did, and because I lived so far away, I would stay at his house the nights I had to work. Well one night it just happened and like laura, it was love the first night
Well here we are 3 kids and 13 years later, ( no tobacco  ) and he's still a pain in the butt
