I'm glad y'all are having fun with this.
Here's how I got 11 boulders rolling, rolling, rolling.
SPOILER AHEAD
1. Roll the bottom ball on the L side
2. Roll the ball above that one so that it is going at exactly the same time.
3. Roll the top ball on the L side, but time it so that it is going at exactly the opposite cycle as the bottom 2 balls. Push it as the bottom 2 balls are nearing the far right side. *The top and bottom balls need to be on exactly opposite cycles*
4. Yup, roll the 2nd ball from the top so that it is going at exactly the same time as the ball above it.
There should now be 4 balls moving in East-West/West-East directions. 2 on top, and 2 on the bottom, in exactly opposite cycles.
5. Pick a side, any side, from the bottom row of boulders and roll a boulder up. Far right or far left- it doesn't matter.
6. Roll the ball next to that one up, but off cycle by one spot/tile. If you chose the R side to start, the 2nd ball should be one spot ahead.
7. Roll the ball next to that one up, but off cycle by one spot/tile from the ball next to it.
You'll see you are creating a 45 degree diagonal.
Continue as long as your nerves will allow.
8. Repeat steps 5-7+ on the other side of the bottom set of boulders. If you are working on the L side you need to start the subsequent boulders one spot behind the one to it's left.
When I got 11 boulders rolling I had the two on top - two on bottom thing going. I had two on the bottom left going up and down and
FIVE!
going up and down on the right hand side. This leads me to believe that it is possible to get
at least 14 boulders moving at once.
SPOILER OVER
This is almost a stand-alone type game. You could start out with 3x3 grids and move up in size presenting different challenges along the way. Mine is just a 10 X 10, but it could be made much larger, or shaped differently. "L" shaped for example.
There I go giving away more ideas for everybody to exploit..... uh... I mean... utilize.
