Web Site Creation programs - what do you use?

Post by Robbie » Mon Apr 10, 2006 1:45 am

Hi everyone!

I'm in the process of getting a web site up & running for a business I have & was curious to hear what programs others use for creating & maintaining their sites.

I'm trialling CoffeeCup at the moment - it seems to be pretty good & has the bonus of having an established forum...

What's your opinion?

Robbie

I use web easy by v-comm, http://www.v-com.com/

they also have a web easy professional, I created a personal web page for family only, it's fairly easy to use, my husband uses Namo for the web page at work and it was to complicated for me

I use Microsoft Frontpage for my web site. It's not that good, but I have been too lazy to check out alternatives. Frontpage is very easy to use though. Almost like writing something in MS Word. And if you want to tinker with the actual html code you can do that in Frontpage as well.

I use Macromedia Dreamweaver. It has a lot of great features that make the process of making a web site pretty easy.

Be nice to geeks. Chances are you'll end up working for one.

Been really busy lately checking out what's available...

Thanks Monica, Mette & Midiman for the feedback. I ended up going with Coffeecup HTML editor, the Flash Form builder & FTP transfer program. I'd recommend giving it a go Mette - you get 30day trial runs. Even for someone like me with absolutely no web site experience at all, it's been pretty good getting into.

I particularly liked the WYSIWYG editor. I've tried a number of other programs & when it comes to placing images on a page they always want to line up with the left hand side of the screen but with Coffeecup it lets you put images anywhere. There's a great forum with lots of active administrators who seem to know what they're talking about!

Actually getting stuff onto the internet has been pretty much a hit & miss affair. The help screens weren't overly helpful but again, those with experience are plentiful & more than willing to help.

I'm currently toying with subdirectories (paths? domains?.... you know like if you have a site www.x.com & need to add on a 2nd folder like www.x.com/folder1/folder2 & getting files & stuff in the right places for that all to work :?

[Just reviewing the post the dummy web site address I put in just above jumped out at me - even though there weren't 3 x's there ( ) just checked it out & looks like Paypal have those addresses linked to their own so it's safe! whew :D ]

...success! Been doodling as I've been typing this in & have finally got it figured out. Will post the link when I have something to show. Just have some text links in at the moment to practice with weighing in at under 1k per page...

If you stumble across this Pat, do you have any link preferences for Midnight Synergy/Wonderland? Like that one you had for Secret Worlds? I'm sure this has come up in the past but can't for the life of me even remember when it happened.
