Big Brother

Post by kaz67 » Fri Jun 09, 2006 7:00 am

I'm not sure if I'm in the right forum but will plough on ... (OT but about WL levels :? )

I've just been reading a few comments on my mini-series levels (thanks folks) and thought I'd explain what I'm up to for the rest of the world

The Big Brother reality TV show is running in the UK at the moment, as housemates leave the house, I'm making a level.

Shabang Shabazz was made with Shabaz in mind. He only lasted 3 days and left of his own accord. An extremely energectic and colourful character, he kinda burnt himself out !

Wee Bonnur Lass - The first genuine evictee voted out by the public. Her name is Bonnie but with her accent, sounded like "Bonnur"

Devious Dawn - She got kicked out for cheating, hence the level leaning towards devious tricks.

George Who? - Oh yes, George, he had applied for a very popular TV show, watched by millions, and decided after a week and half he didn't want to be famous  It's a bit late for that now but I'm sure he'll drift back to obscurity once his 15 minutes of fame are up.

Sezer's Palace - Sezer was evicted last week...

It's eviction night tonight, watch out for a tribute to Nicki or Sam although it might be a bit late cos I'm working

And for those who are still none the wiser ... Happy playing anyway :P

Four letters, Lillie:

TiVo

Edit: I said that without realizing TiVo isn't an international item. Sorry, Lills. Only US and Canada. Guess you'll have to move.

Lillie, you could alway put two TV's side by side,

TiVo is a new thing here that you can record the shows you want to watch on tv, then you can watch it when you want to. It's gotten to be a fairly big thing for those that love their favorite shows! :) :)
If you want to be somebody, if you want to go somewhere, you have to wake up and pay attention.

Gory? I presume that that expression means something different in Europe than in America.
Here "gory" means "bloody"

What exactly is "Big Brother" about? It sounds interesting. :)

True, theo, but even in the ole USA, we use the phrase "gory details". At least, we do in Michigan, Illinois, and Missouri.

Big Brother is a reality show that's in its 7th season (and about that many years). In the US, it's on the CBS network. Think "Survivor" (do you know Survivor?) in a house instead of on an island. "Survivor" meants "The Real World" (Reality show on MTV). Even people who don't watch Big Brother usually know what it is. So, if you don't know what is "Big Brother" then I suspect you're playing far too much Wonderland.    (OK, my mom doesn't play wonderland, and she doesn't know what it is, either. So, maybe I just watch too much TV - but I don't watch Big Brother.)

I don't know if the BBC is running the same Big Brother as CBS, or if they are playing with different characters.

Loirae summed it up quite well Theo.

14 complete strangers/non-celebrities have auditioned and been selected to go into the Big Brother House. The show runs for 13 weeks and during that time they are not allowed any contact at all with the outside world.
They carry out assorted tasks and games to earn shopping and treats, it keeps them occupied and the viewers entertained.

The main concept is each week, all the housemates have to secretly nominate 2 people they'd like to leave the house and those with the most nominations are then put up for the public vote and we can phone in supporting our favourite character if we wish. Some of the vote money goes to charity. (Bit like Pop Idol and X Factor) Essentially its a popularity contest and the last person to leave wins £100,000.

I think it started out years ago as some kind of scientific study of how different people interacted within an enclosed environment, the pshycology of forming, storming, norming and performing as a team. But of course, it soon turns into a soap opera :D

I'm fascinated by the science of it and I love my soaps so I enjoy the show. Usually I can relate to the characters as they're like someone I know and it's fun predicting what they're gonna do next. Bottom line, it's light entertainment really. We don't have "Survivor" in the UK anymore but I actually preferred that show - similar idea though.

Last Friday, Sam was evicted. She was quite pleasant but was up against a strong and popular character (hence Spooky Sam) and last night Grace was evicted (hence Fall From Grace).

So, add together all of the above, a full time job, and the hot weather which turns my computer room into an oven ... that explains why I'm not around much these days      There's just not enough hours in the day !

Nah, I watch TV too :P
I've heard of survivor, but never wanted to watch it.
The TV show I watch most often is "Saturday Night Live", it's hilarious

I just love Big Brother. It starts here June 21st, and I believe Loraie is right we have different people on it here in the states. When it first started years ago I made fun of my daughter and her husband for watching 'that' garbage then one night there was nothing on tv to watch and we watched it so naturally we got hooked. Of course my daughter doesn't watch it anymore and makes fun of us because we do.

I think Big Brother is the most mind numbingly boring show on TV. I tried to watch the first series and decided it was a load of c**p when they were showing people sleeping. It's like looking through binoculars from your bedroom window into other people's houses, which I don't do either incidentally. The only thing worse than it being on TV is that it is on for 13 weeks at a time.

I can understand it being a scientific thing, but then only scientists should watch it. It is definitely not entertainment. :? :P :D

They are not airing the hourly "Big Brother" here in California. :(
But the UK version sounds very interesting because it is on live 24 hours a day.

This brings to mind the excellent Jim Carey movie "The Truman Show".
Perhaps it is life imitating art.

And it's probably one of the few reality shows that is not scripted!
Sounds like fun! :D
