Kaboom Cave-HELP

I can get the first part(barely!) but I can't get the other part fast enough. Can't I kill the stupid thing before i put the block in the water? I just don't have enough time to step on and off the tile, shove a box in the water and then cover the button before I kill the thing. I end up dead!
I tried following the website thing for this level but it is not working. I can't do it.
