RTWD Won't Start - Error Message [HELP!]

Post by LeanDemon » Sat Sep 18, 2004 1:05 am

When I try to run Return to Wonderland Deluxe, I get the following error:

-----
ERROR
-----
Couldn't load Texture: graphics\conveyor.jpg, Flag 1

Press Esc to exit.
------------------------------------------------------------------

The error occurs before RTWD is done loading - it stops at 10%.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling RTWD and also reinstalling to a different drive, tried changing resolutions and bit depth, windowed and full screen, but still get the same result. The same exact error occurs with the original Return to Wonderland also. I am able to load the editor however.

The only thing I can think of that I've changed since I last played RTWD was that I just recently installed a new graphics card (GeForce 6800 GT).

PLEASE HELP! Thanks.

nVidia had some problems with their drivers for the GeForce cards in the past... make sure you update both your DirectX and the Detonator Drivers to the latest set.

Hope this helps.

I already had the latest drivers. Oh well, I guess I won't be playing until updated drivers become available that fixes the problem (whatever the problem is).

Please tell us this problem is going to be fixed MS!! If we update our computers, as LeanDemon did, apparently, we will have this problem, too!!! Quite upsetting! I say HELP too - on his behalf and the rest of us!!!!!!

Calm down! I think you're overreacting when you said, "If we update our computers, as LeanDemon did, apparently, we will have this problem, too!!!"

Not everyone's going to be doomed by LeanDemon's problem. LeanDemon's problem only come about because he upgraded his graphics card, and it so happened that his new graphics card is of a brand and model that apparently has some troubles working with Wonderland. That's all.

There's nothing MS can do about it, it's the graphics card's fault. MS is helpless about it just as a chef would be helpless if the gas stove is broken.

Sorry - I thought it was apparent what I meant - if we installed this graphics card, we'll have the same problem; and maybe there are others that will react this way with Wonderland also. But I didn't know there was nothing MS could do about it. Too bad there isn't some way to know ahead of time.

You might not even have the same problem - it's not that every particular GeForce card will have a problem... the same card on 99.9% of computers will probably be fine.

It might also not be the drivers fault either - LeanDemon should also do a system check to look for Spyware/Virus/Anything else that might be interfering. It's just that in my experience the drivers are usually the culprit (we went through a real headache trying to fix Intensity XS for certain people when it came out - again with a GeForce card - turned out once nVidia released their latest drivers the problem just went away).

It can be frustrating - sometimes software on my system will start behaving differently or stop working altogether, only to go back to normal a few weeks later - esp. now that Windows does updates sometimes without telling you, it's hard to predict what the cause can be.
