Those are "forest spirits" "desert spirits" etc. Just an oversight to allow reusing a very unique enemy type.

It's not exactly stated, but it's implied in POTZ that the events of the Deluxe Set are what resulted in the Z-Bots' banishment by the Constellation Council. The only problem with this is that Z-Bots and UFOs appear in WSW. Can anyone explain this?

I would have to replay the game to find out for sure, but i am pretty certain it was when you first meet with the Constellation Council.
