HATETRIS -- the most evil version of Tetris ever made
It's Tetris, but without gravity, because... trust me... gravity is the least of your problems here. Because it's a version of Tetris that is cruelly and cleverly designed to always present you the worst piece. So it's not random. In fact, it's predetermined, so we're all playing the same game, the same puzzle.
People have managed to get into 20+ and even 30+ lines cleared... but try clearing even a single one. So far I can't. It really is mean.
Yes, you'll see a lot of "S" pieces", but they are not the only ones in the game. If they were, you could make lines forever and it'd be boring. (And if you can't figure out how to make a line with only "S" pieces, it's your fault then)
UP rotates pieces. To get the next piece, get the current one to the bottom and then press DOWN to lock it.
Also, it's written in Javascript, so make sure it's enabled.

Rest in peace, Kym. I hardly knew ya.
Rest in peace, Marinus. A bright star, you were ahead of me on my own tracks of thought. I miss you.

Just as I told you, the nonexistence of gravity does not help all that much.
In fact, for me it doesn't even feel like a tetris game anymore, it feels like one of those multi-state maze puzzles, only crazier.
EDIT: I just found a more tetris-like version with gravity (slow speed) that is a quick port of bastet, which was the original "evil tetris" for Linux. This one is designed to be more "fair" to the player to feel more like a normal tetris game before screwing you over. It's a nice "why is this not working" feeling, but it's way too forgiving compared to HATETRIS. I still haven't been able to get more than 2 lines in HATETRIS while in this bastet thing I got 8 lines without really thinking... only reason I didn't get more is because I wasn't paying attention and started screwing up badly. You can play it here:
http://l0ser.net/src/as3/bastet/bastet-new.swf
The original Linux version of bastet (which I've seen on YouTube) had a very cute little addition that isn't in this flash port: it actively calculated the *most* desirable piece and then where you usually see the "block preview" it actually said "Won't give you this one!"
I seriously wish this existed in HATETRIS to make it even more hateful than it already is.
EDIT 2: And here is another one, "stacked odds":
http://www.rrrrthats5rs.com/games/stacked-odds/
This one seems to be damn hard like HATETRIS is, got 1 line on it. But the controls are stiff and the playing field is not the right size.
I still like HATETRIS the best because it has no gravity and it's deterministic (unlike these) so it's basically a puzzle game with nothing left to chance.

Got 3 lines in Stacked Odds! It does seem a bit easier than HATETRIS mainly because its algorithm seems a bit easier to fool. (Stacked Odds does not let you fill the deepest hole, HATETRIS tries to deny you *any* lines)

10 lines in Stacked Odds. Although the last one would not count under HATETRIS rules, but I could've probably gotten more, I just screwed up really badly after line 8.
Guess the HATETRIS author was right about the other versions being way too easy and forgiving.

Am I the only one who thinks that this is easy? I got twelve lines, no problem.
Remember to look at the dates that every post is made. It's been many years, and I, and others, may not be the same people we were when we made them. This is a symbol of where we came from, and should be remembered as that.

5 lines in HATETRIS. Somehow I managed to perform an AI-abusing loop and would've probably gotten more had I decided to stick with the pattern instead of working logically.

EDIT: 8 LINES!!! This is me trying to stick with the pattern and forgetting any and all Tetris logic. Yes, in HatetrisMuzozavr wrote:In HATETRIS itself? It doesn't really count if you did it in "Stacked Odds".
